Quantifiers
Quantifiers – Too much or too many?
Using quantifiers helps us explain the size or the quantity of something. But, when do we use too much and when do we use too many? Here we will explain the basic rules and we’ll show you examples.

Examples in Context
Eating out at the best fish and chip shop in London is a lovely idea on a super hot summer’s day. The portions of food can be big so be careful.
If you go with your friend, just order one portion of fish and chips because there can be too much fish for one person to eat, and too many chips as well. There are many places to choose from around the centre of London, and you can always find a nice pub nearby to have a drink afterwards. Fish and chips can be too heavy and too oily, so please don’t eat too much. If there are too many people in the fish and chip shop then you might have to wait for the chef to make more batter for the fresh fish and cut up more potatoes for the chips. If it is getting late, and the queue of people is very long, then there might not be enough fish for everyone. This can happen on very sunny days by the coast, so again be careful.
After finishing your fish and chips with your friend you should try a pint of English ale in the pub. This will help your oily fried food to go down better. But you better not drink too many pints because you might get a hangover. A good idea is to drink half pints, as this way you can taste a variety of flavours without feeling too ill in the morning. Pubs can also get very busy, especially at the weekend so there might not be enough tables and chairs for you and your friends.
A lot of people drinking in pubs prefer to stand and drink. The pubs can be too noisy, so it is better to choose a quieter place with less people if you want to hear what people are saying to you. Some people don’t mind the loud noisy places. But maybe those people have already drunk too much alcohol and not enough water. They will be feeling very sick the next day.
The next day you might want to go for a coffee in Starbucks or Pret a Mange. The reusable cups are the best as they are 50p cheaper and you don’t have to burn your lips on the hot coffee drinking from the plastic lids. The coffee can be way too hot, even after waiting 5 minutes. The paper cups have too much plastic on them so they can’t be recycled. This is why using your own mug is better for the environment. Too many trees are being cut down and not enough recycling is happening. You can help by reusing your mug cup again and again. You will also save a lot of money too.
Have fun and enjoy the sun while it lasts.
